Fashion4Change takes on environmental sustainability

Newly established Fashion4Change by Alpha Agency is taking on environmental sustainability as their first cause for the annual inaugural showcase.

Alpha Agency Director, Ausa Kamanga in an interview said they have organised the event because they want to take part in environmental sustainability issues by involving corporates.

“our main aim is to help make deforestation unfashionable with Chitetezo Mbaula  which saves 40% energy use”.

“Secondly we want designers to find market for their designs. So it’s more like an interaction night” she said.

Kamanga further explained “we want people to know we have a Mbaula that can save energy and fashion show audience mostly is women, so we thought organising the show is the right platform to advocate against deforestation and involving corporates to buy Mbaula to be donated to the needy”.

In partnership with Cori-manufactures of Kukoma oil, they have bought 3300 cookstoves to be donated vulnerable women in all regions of Malawi.

On how they intend to use fashion to bring about change in a country where a large number of the population use charcoal, Kamanga said “it’s not recommended by the government and there is nothing that we can do about it but the best way is to find half a solution of it by advocating to users to start using Chitetezo Mbaula which saves 40% becuase it holds heat for longer period”

She disclosed that Fashion4Change interests are still on environmental sustainability issues and next time they will be recycling.
