Be Forward to play international friendly ahead of CAF, deny Kanyenda leaving
TNM Super League Champions, Be Forward Wanderers FC, will play an international friendly match against Mozambican side, UD Songo, this Saturday, January 13, as part of extensive preparations for their CAF competition games.
General Secretary for Wanderers, Mike Butao, says both teams are preparing for the CAF Champions League tournament, which kicks off early next month, hence the arrangement.
The club has since denied reports that striker Esau Kanyenda has dumped the Nomads following failure by the Lali Lubani outfit to honour its financial obligations towards the player – it is reported the Be Forward-sponsored side owe the robust forward K2 million signing-on fee balance.
Butao confirmed the development, saying Kanyenda left for Lilongwe over the weekend fueling speculations, but his trip was normal as the team was on break.
Wanderers regrouped on Tuesday at Blantyre Sports Club, but Kanyenda and winger Blessings Tembo, who controversially signed for the Nomads were not present.
Butao said Kanyenda went to see his family in the capital city and he will be back into the fold.
“We would like to assure our beloved fans that Kanyenda signed a 12-month contract with us and is ready to be part and parcel of the team in CAF games”, he said.
In related news, reports indicate the TNM Super League champions are preparing to take Silver Strikers to local football governing body, the Football Association of Malawi, to resolve the Tembo saga.
Tembo signed a 3-year contract with Wanderers two weeks ago, but is yet to report to the club following Strikers claims that they still own the player.
The Bankers claim Tembo signed the contract under duress.
