Government consulting on privatizing Bingu National Stadium
Government of Malawi says it is in consultation to privatize management of Bingu National Stadium.
Minister of Labour Youth Sports and Manpower Development, Francis Kasaila, confirmed the development, saying they are brainstorming better ways of managing the stadium.
News of the privatization comes after it was established the stadium management is facing shortages of resources to maintain the facility.
Among critical issues include reports that the Stadium has a special four phase of electricity which accumulates a bill in excess of K5 million every month; as the generator installed at the Stadium consumes 18 litres of diesel in an hour.
Kasaila says Government officials are still discussing the matter to find a solution.
Currently, funds from the facility go straight to Account Number 1.
