Kupa, real name Chiphokwelo Catherine Chimayo, is an up-and-coming Pop and R&B artist from Lilongwe with an exceptionally huge potential.
Her debut song Cinnamon is true testament of what great artistry she can become when nurtured properly.
Molowere Gwembere, Kupa’s manager says Cinnamon is a soulful touch on the pop genre, an anthem for every great event.
The song was produced by Eril and ItsFriday.
Popularly known as Molo, he has taken Kupa under his management which also houses Beanca of the famed dance hall hit Ntadekha.
Explaining where she draws her music inspiration from, he says “Kupa uses her music to tell stories and bases her music on her experiences and daily life”.
“She has just come onto the scene this year with her first single and the reviews are positive”.
Listening to the track, Kupa promises to be a force to be reckoned with.
Consistency is what keeps great musicians on people’s playlists and if she does that, which she surely will, she might just be the next best thing to happen to Malawian Pop and R&B.
Kupa is currently working on more music and will be releasing an EP.
Besides music, Kupa is also a student, studying Chemical Engineering.
Every now and then, a new artist comes up. Good music gets to the fans by virtue of being good music. Those that don’t fit the criteria fade off into oblivion.
